When to Book & What to bring for your Wedding cake consultation?

For Wedding cakes it's never too early to secure your date as spaces fill quickly especially between the months October- December.

We kindly request 3-month notice for Wedding cakes. (Assumed rest of your decorations and flowers are in place).

At the consultation we will sit down and discuss the elements (if any) that you've already chosen for your event from your dress and location to the menu and flowers. We have extensive portfolio for your viewing as well.

We request that you bring with you any references you may want included in the design of your cake such as:

  • copy of your wedding invitation
  • photo of the venu
  • photo of the brides dress
  • colour samples/swatches of the fabric
  • magazine clippings
We incorporate all those elements into the design to create your own masterpiece.  Then we have the testing portion of the meeting where you will try a variety of different cakes and fillings (if you have special request please let us know before hand). After our testing a proposal with all of the information regarding your cake and a sketch will be emailed to you for review. On confirmation of your order we require 50% deposit to secure your booking.

Homework

1. Do you want traditional tiered cake or contemporary decorated cake?

2. How many tiers do you need?

Dictated somewhat by how many guests you have attending the wedding, the size of the slices you'll serve, and whether you are keeping the top tier.

3. What shape do you like?

Cakes can be made in many shapes and sizes, including hexagonal and heart shape, although round and square are the most popular.

4. What flavour cake?

At Delicious Treats you can choose from the following cakes: Dark Chocolate Mud,  Marble Cake, Lemon Cake, Banana Cake, Orange & Poppyseed, Red Velvet, Chocolate chip pound cake.

You could have alternate tiers (eg. One Chocolate Cake, second Red Velvet third Banana Cake).

5. Stacked, Pillars, Suspended Stand, Hidden Support or Central Column?

Wedding cakes can be constructed with cakes stacked centrally or offset on top of one another. Cakes can be separated with plaster of Paris pillars for elegance and height. Tiers can be separated with hidden supports and blocked with fresh flowers or supported with a visible central column.

6. Additional Decoration?

Here you can be inspired to decorate your wedding cake to compliment your wedding theme. The use of colours, ornaments, ribbons, bows, fruit, wire hearts, iced pearls, hand piped designs to much the flowers, bridesmaids dresses, and lace on your bridal gown can all be taken into consideration.

7. Colours?

When it comes to wedding cakes, white is traditional, but now you can have a cake in any colour of the rainbow. A colourful cake as your reception centerpiece will no doubt grab attention. Go crazy with colour to compliment your theme and brighten up your reception.

8. Fresh or Sugar Flowers?

Wedding cakes can be dressed with fresh flowers between the tiers to compliment the bridal bouquet or a beautiful spray of cascading sugar flowers to compliment your wedding theme.

When to Book & What to bring for your Bar/Bat Mitzvah cake consultation?

For Bar/Bat Mitzvah it is never too early to secure your date as spaces fill quickly especially between the months October- December.

We kindly request 3-month notice for Bar/Bat Mitzvah cakes.

At the consultation we will sit down and discuss the elements (if any) that you've already chosen for your event from location to the menu and theme. We have extensive portfolio for your viewing as well. Helpful things to consider when designing your cake; the individual for whom it is intended, their hobbies and traits for example, the theme of the occasion and the statement you are trying to create. It can also be useful to show a cake designer  any references that may be appropriate, such as invitations or photographs.
